ReflectionDescribe - What do you see?:
I see a row of painted dots on the asphalt. They start in the foreground and then slowly fade away into the distance. On a dirt hill are two dumpsters in the background as well as clusters of trees. There is a girl with black hair in the foreground. She has her eyes closed and her lips partially opened.
Analyze - How is the work organized?
There are a few distinct shapes, such as the rectangular dumpsters as well as the circular painted dots on the ground. There is a great contrast between the color of the girl's hair and the color of the sky. There is also a distinct contrast between the asphalt and the dirt hill in the background. The girl is in focus and, in contrast, the background is not. This was done intentionally so that the girl in the photograph would be the first and main thing the viewer would see. The girl's face is slightly tilted downwards and her profile of her face is seen.
Interpret - What is the artist trying to communicate?
The photograph was taken outdoors which is the reason why the image is light. Since the girl's eyes are softly shut it seems as though she is reflecting about something. Her lips are parted which could be because she is slowly exhaling. It's as if she needed to physically get away from whatever her mind is occupied with so she could think in peace.
Judge - What do you think of the work?
I believe the work was successful in accomplishing the assignment of shooting in various angles. I feel as though the work wasn't well thought out because there wasn't a lot of time to really think about what I wanted to express through my photograph.
